A few weeks ago I arranged a quick portfolio shoot with Athena. Athena; being a horse rider, had access to her very own horse. I’ve never photographed a horse before so my mind immediately started racing with ideas and lighting set-ups.
These first few shots are just some available light shots that I got of Janey before our shoot.

The first set-up was the only set-up to include the horse. Janey was a little rambunctious on the day of the shoot so I didn’t want to tax her too much. It was a fairly simple set-up as the diagram shows. I had the lights set just a little above the ambient light so that the scene still looked natural

The second set-up after Janey went back to her lazy day was a little ringflash work in a corner of the farmyard. Again a simple lighting set-up and a lot of expression from Athena.

The third and final set-up took place in a doorway. Athena made the doorways hers and I simple snapped away.

I always enjoy working with Athena. She has a great smile and is super easy to shoot with. And now I can say that I have indeed photographed a horse.
